New Learning Centre will open doors for Co-op staff14 May 2002A new Learning Centre for Co-op Group workers opened its doors for the first time last month in Manchester. The Learning Room is now available for all Co-op employees who want to improve their skills, access information and improve their career opportunities. Eight Learning Reps are on hand to help members choose the course which is right for them. General Secretary Bill Connor joined senior Co-op managers, staff and members at the opening. "Lifelong Learning deals with a lot of important issues," he said. "We are pleased that the Co-op Group, along with the Learning Reps, have worked so well together to provide the Learning Centre." Learning Rep Yvonne Wilson is delighted with the new facilities. "We've already had a lot of interest from staff," she said. "Courses range from foreign languages to computer skills. Staff can either brush up on their existing skills or learn something completely new." The Learning Room is a pilot project and if successful, it could be rolled out to other societies across the UK.
