Qualified members14 January 2002Wigan's Reality distribution centre officially opened its doors to a new Learning Shop last year. The on-site centre, which has run courses since March, will help staff carry on learning in the workplace. The centre is available to all staff at its Martland Mill site, either before or after work. Learning Shop Co-ordinator Karen Winrow said: "We have eleven Learning Reps on site including one Sata rep. "We work well as a team to encourage and assist staff with their learning requests." The project was set up by Reality, Usdaw and Wigan and Leigh College as a way of encouraging staff to improve existing skills and take up new interests. Deputy General Secretary John Hannett presented certificates to four members after they completed a computer course. "I'm delighted with the response to Lifelong Learning from Usdaw members up and down the country," he said. "The Learning Reps do a tremendous job in encouraging people back into learning. It's great to see our members making progress." Contact Details Media and Communications Department Email: communications@usdaw.org.uk Web: http://www.usdaw.org.uk/lifelong_learning |
