Biscuit workers byte into new Learning Centre

14 March 2002

Members at biscuit maker McVities can now have a Rich Tea with their IT with the opening of a brand new Learning Centre at the factory in Harlesden, London.

Union reps at the site have worked closely with management to introduce the first-class facilities. The courses, provided in association with Learndirect, have been a huge hit with the workforce.

Area Organiser Chris Hope welcomed the move. "We have almost 80 per cent membership at the site," he said, "and a good team of shop stewards.

"One of the stewards is going on the TUC course to be a Learning Rep, which shows how committed Usdaw is to the learning project.

"The centre hasn't been open long and already it's fully booked with people waiting to get their opportunity to learn.

"The factory is famous for making chocolate digestives and I'm pleased to say the company really takes the biscuit on this initiative. It has made a big investment in the centre."
