Eastern Division hosts its first ULR forum25 July 2005Union Learning Representatives from all across the region attended the first ever Eastern Divisional ULR forum in Bury St Edmunds on 21 June. They discussed Usdaw’s latest learning campaigns, came up with ideas on how learning could improve recruitment and attended workshops on computing, Skills for Life, learning in retail and the Employer Training Pilots. Norrie Slater, Usdaw Divisional Officer, was full of praise for the work of the ULRs. “Your hard work has made this division a great example of what can be achieved” he said "and we can only go from strength to strength”. It was a very mixed group drawn from all corners of the division with representatives from retail, distribution and food manufacturing. There was also a real mix of experience with some very new ULRs and others among the first ever appointed in Usdaw. This mix helped to ensure that everybody got something from the day. Delegates really enjoyed the forum. “It’s so good to have a chance to meet other ULRs and see how they have overcome similar problems” said Lesley Marriage from Tesco in Norfolk. “I really enjoyed the chance to discuss new developments” added Mick Power from Sainsburys Rye Park. All were keen to make it an annual event and had plenty of ideas for other issues that should be covered.
