New E-Learning Tackling Racism course
The TUC Tackling Racism course has been updated and is now available as both a 3-day 'classroom' programme and as an 18-hour online course.
The 18 hours of online E-course are spread over six weeks, and are fully equivalent to the face-to-face version. Group activities take place via an online bulletin board, so you can log in and participate whenever it suits you. You will also receive support from a tutor via e-mail (and telephone if required).
The TUC have built on the strengths of previous courses, and amended activities and resources where appropriate.
Course aims
The new course covers the following:
- Defining what racism is, and the consequences for those people affected
- The causes of racism at work
- Understanding the legal framework, and how this could be used
- Finding relevant information, including union policies and guidance; employers policies and procedures relating to race equality and information on staff; data on your local population
- Exploring why people at work may not have the confidence to challenge racist comments and behaviour, and how this reluctance might be overcome
- Identifying the difficulties that people might face in raising concerns about racism, and how these can be addressed
- How union reps and members can help advise and represent members, including interviewing skills
- Evaluating what your employer is doing to promote racial equality
- Drawing up a union action plan to bring about improvements
On successful completion of the course you will receive a qualification accredited by the Open College Network. If you are interested in this course, further details can be obtained from visiting the TUC Learning Services web site, where you can also download an application form.
