Union Learning Rep training
Usdaw has written training materials for Union Learning Reps. However, the training of our ULRs is usually contracted to the TUC Education Service to tutor on our behalf.
The following training is being established as the norm:
The Introductory Course
This is a five-day course. It is usually run as a day release course spread over five weeks. The course is accredited by the TUC. The course covers:
- The role of the Union Learning Rep.
- Giving advice and guidance.
- Working with employers to promote learning.
Basic Skills Awareness
This is a two or three day course. It is usually run as a block (ie consecutive days). The course is accredited by the TUC. The course covers:
- Skills levels and what they mean.
- Encouraging learners to come forward.
- The regulations on basic skills learning.
Follow-On TUC Units
The TUC run a number of follow-on modules, which may be appropriate for Usdaw Learning Reps in certain circumstances. These are usually short course (one or two days). Some Union Learning Reps may find it useful to attend these courses.
