Usdaw and Lifelong Learning

Usdaw launched its Lifelong Learning campaign seven years ago. Since then, our campaign has shown that when learning is made accessible and affordable, our members are keen to take it up.

Up to now:-

  • More than 22,000 members have returned to some sort of learning
  • More than 525 Union Learning Reps have been trained
  • Learning is up and running in over 150 workplaces
  • Over 45 workplace Learning Centres have been set up
  • Partnerships to access learning have been established with major companies like Littlewoods, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Northern Foods
  • Partnerships with colleges to promote access to learning have been established all over the country

This list does not mention the wider successes that Usdaw has been involved with such as our work to secure legal rights for Union Learning Reps and workplace Learning Committees. We also campaign to make learning affordable.

Usdaw can only campaign for Lifelong Learning because we are strong and well organised. In turn, Lifelong Learning is adding value to union membership and helping to raise the profile of Usdaw, and so building union membership and organisation.
