Back to reality
The Reality Learning Shop in Wigan is testing out the new Government initiative on Employer Training Pilots (ETPs). “They give people a chance to get their first recognised qualification at level 2,” explains Eric Knowles the Usdaw site learning co-ordinator. “The funding supports everything, assessment, training and accreditation. Staff don’t pay a penny. And you can work towards any level 2 NVQ or a qualification in literacy, numeracy or ESOL.”

Piggin success
Over 600 Usdaw members came through the doors of the first open day at the Grampian Country Pork site in Ashton. “We were absolutely knocked out,” says Denise Gordon, Usdaw Project Worker, “but the reps really deserve the success after all the hard work they have put in.”

Usdaw expands Lifelong Learning support
Usdaw has expanded the support it gives to Lifelong Learning by setting up a new team of Project Workers. The move is financed by a grant from the Union Learning Fund. “This is great news,” says James Rees, Usdaw Head of Education and Training. “It gives us a chance to really boost the number of members getting back into learning.”
