Safety Net Journal Issue 10

HSE produces checklist for workplace vehicle safety

The Health and Safety Executive has published a detailed checklist on all aspects of safety for vehicles in the workplace.

The site inspection checklist is intended to be a guide to what employers should consider when trying to reduce risks such as people being hit by vehicles, falls from vehicles and manual handling injuries when loading or unloading.

The nine sections of the checklist cover the key areas of risk including management and supervision, site layout and traffic routes, vehicle safety, loading and unloading, driver competence and sheeting and tipping. A tenth section lists important references and soruces of further advice.

It will mainly be of interest to reps in warehouses and factories where lift trucks and other vehicles are used.

To view and download the checklist go the HSE website - http://www.hse.gov.uk/workplacetransport/checklist/index.htm
