Food Industry Conference October 2008

By Tony larkin

This years Annual Conference for Occupational Health and Safety in Food Manufacture is being held in Blackpool at the Imperial Hotel on 8th - 9th October.

Following the success of earlier years at Chipping Campden the organisers will once again be the Food and Drink Manufacturing Health & Safety Forum and the Food and Drink Group of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)

The theme for this year's conference is 'Back to Basics'. The agenda will cover many important and topical issues such as machinery safety, workplace transport including lift trucks, slips prevention, manual handling/MSD, accident investigation, safety risk assessment, occupational health priorities, stress and mental health, and occupational health risk assessment.

Judith Hackitt CBE, new chair of the HSC, will be the keynote speaker.

The conference has been oversubscribed for the last 5 years and this one will be no exception. With only 150 places available early booking is recommended. As always we encourage reps to go with their safety managers if possible to promote a joint safety culture. Either your employer or your Usdaw branch should pay for the event.

If any reps in the food manufacturing or dairy sectors are interested, contact the conference organiser Ruth Thorpe, IOSH Groups Manager ruth.thorpe@iosh.co.uk, tel: 0116 257 3144 or go the HSE website for further details - http://www.hse.gov.uk/food/events.htm
