Safety Net Journal Issue 7

Model risk assessment for shops

By Tony Larkin

HSE has produced a model risk assessment for shops such as newsagents and convenience stores.

The risk assessment is one of a series that HSE are producing as guidance for small businesses.

The aim is to make it clear that a risk assessment should be about identifying practical actions that protect employees and members of the public from harm and injury, and does not have to be a bureaucratic nightmare.

The principle works on the belief that for the great majority of risk assessments, short bullet points work well.

Future example risk assessments will be available for off-licences, butcher's shops and small warehouses.

To view the model risk assessment go to http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/casestudies/newsagent.htm.
