HSE tells inspectors how to enforce safety rep regs

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have produced an Inspection Topic Pack on worker involvement for HSE and LA inspectors explaining what they should do to encourage consultation and to enforce the regulations.

In the past inspectors were reluctant to enforce any aspect of the consultation regulations. The new guide explains that they should make contact with safety reps and should check that employers do have proper consultation arrangements in place. It also explains when they should consider taking enforcement action.

Details of the inspection pack can be found at the HSE website below:www.hse.gov.uk/foi/internalops/fod/inspect/workerinvolve.pdf
