TUC launches action plan for young workers

By Doug Russell

The TUC is stepping up its efforts to protect young workers as its contribution to the European 'SafeStart' campaign.

The TUC has produced a new guide for health and safety reps outlining the steps they can take to help protect young people at work. These include;

  • encouraging yong people to join the union and to become reps themselves
  • making young peoples H&S a standing item on safety committee agendas
  • ensuring young workers get the extra protection of the law
  • checking there is suitable supervision, induction and training for young workers
  • making sure H&S reps are consulted on young worker health and safety issues.
The guide is available on the TUC website - http://www.tuc.org.uk/extras/youngworkers_safetyreps.pdf
