Safety Net Journal Issue 3

Annual Food and drink industry H&S conference October 2006

By Doug Russell

The annual conference on H&S in the food and drink manufacturing industries will be held at Chipping Camden on 25 October 2006.

Organised by the Food Industry Forum that brings together the HSE, employers trade associations and trade unions in the sector, the Conference is a major event for safety reps who work in food manufacture or dairy manufacture. The venue is once again the CCFRA at Chipping Camden in Gloucestershire.

This year's Conference will be chaired by Doug Russell, Usdaw's Health and Safety Officer. It will include a keynote presentation by Sayeed Khan, a member of the HSC, on occupational health and rehabilitation along with sessions on the prevention of back injuries; on the HSE's 'Moving Goods Safely' project; on managing H&S in a multi-lingual industry and on the new Noise at Work Regulations.

As in previous years, trade union safety reps can attend at the reduced delegate fee of £70+VAT (A saving of over £100 on the normal delegate fee). Delegate fees and expenses of any reps who wish to attend need to be paid by the employer or by the branch.

Keep an eye on the 'What's Hot' section of the H&S web pages for further details and a copy of the registration form when it becomes available.
