London reps - get involved in HSE Moving Goods Safely project

By Tony Larkin

Moving Goods Safely (MGS) is a London-wide initiative involving the Health and Safety Executive, the 33 London Local Authorities, SERTUC and employers working in partnership to reduce injuries and ill-health arising from the movement of goods.

The aim of the project is to look at the whole supply chain from the factory to the shop. It includes coordinated inspections of multi-site and peripatetic organisations by mixed Local Authority and HSE delivery teams and focuses on workplace transport, musculoskeletal disorders and slips risks. In different parts of the capital, specifc employers like Somerfield are working with the HSE/Local Authority inspectors. The plan is to roll the campaign out nationally in 2007.

More information can be found at HSE's MGS website. If reps in the London area want to find out more or get involved they should contact the HSE on moving.goods@hse.gsi.gov.uk.
