Safety Net Journal Issue 1

New HSE web pages for workers and safety reps

By Tony Larkin

The HSE has revamped its workers' webpages to include more useful advice.

There have been web pages aimed at workers on the HSE website for some time, but unions were generally disappointed with the information they gave. HSE has now updated these workers' web pages to give more information about safety rep rights, including a very clear statement of their right to have copies of Accident Book reports. And there is also a page that gathers together the research that shows that consultation, especially with trade union safety reps, improves H&S performance.

While welcoming the changes, we think they could go further. For example, there is still too much focus on workers' indivdual responsibilities. Have a look and let us know what you think by going to our discussion forum.
