Mens Health Week focuses on health issues at the workplace05 June 2008Men’s Health Week is an event run by the Men’s Health Forum, an independent body set up to promote awareness of men’s health issues. The 2008 Week runs from 9 - 15 June with the theme 'Men at Work'
The Week covers all aspects of men’s health in the workplace. It will focus on three main areas: - traditional health and safety issues, the workplace potential for improving men’s health and the Government’s health, work and well-being agenda. One aim of the week is to increase awareness of work related accident and ill health. A significant proportion of men’s health issues are work related – for example, accidents, exposure to hazardous substances and stress. Men can be reluctant to access mainstream health services by going to their G.P. But research suggest they will use services provided at work and take part in health improvement initiatives. The Health Work and Well-being strategy - http://www.workingforhealth.gov.uk/ - aims to improve the general health and well-being of our working age population. It seeks to involve employers, trade unions and health professionals to create healthier workplaces, ensure provision of good occupational health services and enhance rehabilitation support.
