HSE needs your help: Work at Height survey.28 March 2006The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is calling on trade union safety reps to help with research on the impact of the Work at Height Regulations. The regulations came into force last year. They cover all work at height from shop staff standing on kick stools or steps to fill shelves through to warehouse workers using mobile elevated work platforms and workers doing repair or construction work on roofs and high buildings. The regulations require employers to avoid work at height where possible. Where this cannot be done suitable risk assessments and safe working procedures must be in place to protect workers. In 2005 53 workers were killed and nearly 4,000 seriously injured in workplace falls. It is certainly a significant issue in all the sectors where Usdaw members work. The research is being carried out for HSE by an organisation called System Concepts. As part of the research they are very keen to get the views of trade union safety reps in all sorts of workplaces. They have devised a simple questionnaire that they want reps to complete. Please click below to get a copy of the questionnaire. Either: Print it off, fill it in and return it by post to: Health and Safety Section, USDAW, Or fill it in on line and send your completed questionnaire by email to healthandsafety@usdaw.org.uk. Either way we need your completed questionnaires by 14 April 2006. Thanks for your help!
