Branch officers’ courses

18 August 2008

Newly elected officials spent five days at the union’s national training centre in Warrington as part of the popular branch officers course in February and July this year.

The course takes a comprehensive look at how the union operates at branch, divisional and national level.

Speakers from all the major departments at central office take time out to explain the work of their departments. While both general secretary John Hannett and deputy general secretary Paddy Lillis also call in for a question and answer session with the reps.

Boots rep Claire Frost was on the July course. “I really enjoyed it,” she said.

“The tutor Jenni Murray put us at ease from day one and calmed everyone’s nerves. The other reps were really friendly and I would’ve gladly stayed longer.”

The course is open to all branch secretaries and chairs, and includes accommodation and meals at a nearby hotel. Transport costs are usually met by the branch.
