Home Get Active Successful Organising
The winners have it all22 February 2008Quality counted at the 2007 National Organising Awards where every nomination showed a high level of commitment to the union in their particular field. The Radisson Hotel was packed with reps who have shown outstanding dedication to their members in 2007. Eleven winners were spread across the eight categories. The Individual Organising Award was shared with Scotland’s Tony Sneddon and North West’s Stephen Turner coming out on top. “I was delighted to win,” said Tony. “That was my second awards night and to win made all the hard work worthwhile.” Stephen agreed. “It’s a very well organised event and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was strong competition for every category so to win the national award was a very nice surprise.” The Learning Rep Award went to Mandy Owens who is the learning co-ordinator at the Littlewoods site in Shaw, Oldham. “This was my first time and it was even better than I thought it was going to be,” she said. “There was a great atmosphere, the food was good and the hotel was excellent. “To win was the icing on the cake. It was unexpected but I was really pleased.” Boots rep Wayne Lindo won the Health and Safety Rep Award. “I didn’t have a clue what to expect on the night but I was very impressed,” he said. “It was very informal, very friendly and I was impressed. I was amazed to win and the news has gone down very well in the depot.” North Eastern Redcats reps Tracy Scholey and Sharon Simpson had ‘an amazing night’ after they shared the campaigns award with Isobel MacInnes. “This night makes you feel really special,” said Tracy. “It was out of this world, a truly fantastic evening.” The Equalities award went to Midlands Co-op’s Donna Lindsay. “I really appreciated the night and the fact the union goes to so much trouble to thank its reps,” she said. “I was shocked to win because there were so many excellent reps nominated. “Everyone got on really well and it was nice to be with so many like-minded people. A fantastic night.” Joint winners of the Most Promising New Activist Award were Daniel Rouse and David McKeown. “I had a brilliant night,” said former Tesco rep Daniel. Unfortunately two winners who could not make it on the night – David McKeown, and Isobel MacInnes – will feature in a future issue of Network.
