Elections for Tesco store reps on the way

21 February 2008

Members at Tesco are being urged to get involved in the forthcoming elections for their union reps which will be held in all Tesco stores in April and May 2008.

“Usdaw reps are the public face of the union and play a key role in helping and supporting members at work,” said general secretary John Hannett.

“This is a great opportunity for members to elect people to represent their interests and concerns in store.

“It is also a good opportunity to increase the number of Usdaw reps throughout the company. “Currently Tesco has more than 3,000 Usdaw reps and this network will continue to grow. All members should consider standing – it really is the best way to get involved with the issues affecting your workplace.

“Newly elected reps will receive first-class training from Usdaw and will be eligible for time off from their employer.

“Furthermore, Usdaw wants to see our team of reps reflect the diversity in the Tesco workforce. “At the moment black, Asian and young members are under-represented at rep-level.

“With more reps, Usdaw will become a more powerful and effective voice for the Tesco workforce, and strengthen the partnership.

“Usdaw has thousands of reps doing an excellent job in Tesco, and the union wants to see this grow. If you work in Tesco keep an eye out for election materials appearing in store during March and April.”

For more information contact your local union rep, local office or call 0845 6060640.
