Sainsbury's reps at the double16 October 2007Team work is the order of the day at the Sainsbury’s store in Dundee where membership has more than doubled over the last two years thanks to the dedication of the four in-store reps. Reps Laura McLean, 29 and Lewis Grant, 28 have the day shift all wrapped up while Mike Peat and Dave Cartmill look after members on the night shift. “It works well,” says Lewis who works in the store’s Produce department. “I look after our members on my side of the store and Laura looks after everyone on her patch in the grocery department and of course the two guys look after the night shift.” “Membership was around 30 per cent two years ago but we only had the two night shift reps so it was difficult for them to get to see the day staff,” said Laura. “Lewis and I came on board a couple of years ago and everything fell into place. We had time to speak to staff on the day shift and once a handful joined, others soon followed.” Lewis added: “It’s working very well because members now have a rep they can identify with and call on when they need to. “Membership is now up to 70 per cent and growing. We get to speak to all new starters and we have the full support of management and personnel and that’s a great help.” Contact Details Media and Communications Department Ph: 0161 224 2804 Fax: 0161 249 2490 communications@usdaw.org.uk |
