Trio double membership in-store

Teamwork is paying off for trio Corinne Shrives, Linsey Collins and Vicky Herrett at the Morrisons store in Doncaster, South Yorkshire where membership has more than doubled over the past 18 months.

Longest serving rep Corinne took up her role two years ago, Linsey followed last November and latest recruit Vicky joined the team last month. "It's going really well," said Corinne, a petrol station cashier. "It was a great relief when Linsey took on the role having been the lone rep in the store for a year and now we have Vicky, our night shift rep, the team is complete.

"We're now up to 180 members which is brilliant considering there was only 70 when I took over.

"You need to be well organised and well informed. We get together on a regular basis to discuss any issues and future activity. We've looked at membership density right across the store and with 400 plus staff, the potential is excellent.

"Now we have a full-strength team we'll be able to target our activities better with each of us able to concentrate on our own specific areas.

"Management are very supportive and we're invited in to every induction. The new induction video has been a great success and gone down really well with new starters.

"Our aim is to build up a good relationship with staff so that they know they can trust their union rep if they have a problem.

"We've a number of recruitment activities planned around the union's campaigns over the summer. National Respect Day and the membership recruitment week were ideal opportunities to get people interested and we're very confident membership will increase."
