Home Get Active Successful Organising
Building the union25 November 2006“Usdaw was the first union to set up its own Academy which started in 2003 with 15 organising officers. In 2004 18 organising officers were taken on and in 2005, 23 organising officers were recruited. In 2006, 29 organising officers were put through their paces. “In total 25,000 new members and 2,000 new reps and activists have been recruited by the academy organisers since it began four years ago. “As an organising officer you will spend six months with the Academy which runs from May to November. Usdaw will arrange the time off with your employer and pay your wages. “In the past the Academy has attracted reps from across all Usdaw sectors. “The Academy is fully accredited which means that organising officers receive an externally recognised qualification. At the end of the six month secondment, reps return to their workplaces to continue with their recruitment and organising work – highly skilled and motivated.” Contact Details Media and Communications Department Ph: 0161 224 2804 Fax: 0161 249 2490 communications@usdaw.org.uk |
