Andy steps up a gear after academy stint

03 January 2006

Tesco’s Andy Hearn, 31, enjoyed his six months with the Usdaw academy so much that he successfully applied for a 12-month stint with the TUC’s.

“It was a great experience working as an organiser with the Usdaw academy,” said the 31 year-old. “When the chance to join the TUC academy came up it looked like the ideal opportunity to develop my skills further.

“The great news is that I’ll be working with Usdaw as my nominated union and in my own division, Eastern. This is important to me and I’m really looking forward to the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead.

“I’d worked for Tesco for 11 years and became a rep three years ago. I knew as soon as I’d attended my first Usdaw shop steward training course that I wanted to progress and get more involved with the union.”
