National winner of the 2005 Campaigns Award - Maggie Hughes21 January 2006Maggie won the 2005 Campaigns Award for her innovative use of campaigns in her Tesco store in Croydon. Maggie is the leading shop steward in her store and used her experiences as a working mother to effectively lobby MPs at the House of Commons making the case for more rights for working parents and carers.
Maggie has also organised street stalls for Respect for Shopworkers Day that aims to reduce violence against shopworkers, and has been back to Parliament to lobby MPs for a national ID scheme to reduce the number of sales to under-age drinkers. “Freedom From Fear is designed to raise the issue of violence and I make sure that people in my store get involved in reducing the levels of violence against shopworkers,” said Maggie.
