National winners of the 2005 Team Recruitment and Organising Award

A team from Exel Logistics at Preston Brook near Runcorn have won the 2005 National Team of the Year award. The team of hard working shop stewards and safety reps led by John O'Brien won their award after successfully dealing with a number of changes of owners as well as maintaining 100% membership at the distribution site.

John's team have worked hard to keep nearly one thousand members fully informed making sure that inductions of new staff are covered by trained reps in a sector that is notoriously difficult to organise trade union membership.

“I feel very lucky that my team at Exel give me so much support as we've had to deal with a lot of changes but their enthusiasm for the job has kept spirits high across the site,” said John.

Maureen Bowen, Steve O'Connor, Ann Lloyd and Pauline Cope West Midlands Retail Food No.1 E041 Branch
