National winner of the 2005 Most Promising New Activist Award - Tracy Millard21 January 2006Tracy, from Gloucester General A098 Branch, picked up the 2005 Most Promising New Activist Award for her outstanding work in persuading colleagues at her Tesco store in Gloucester to join Usdaw despite only being a union member for a few months.
In just six months Tracy has been the driving force behind recruitment at the Tesco store in Gloucester where there was no real history of trade union membership. Her enthusiasm and lateral thinking has motivated her colleagues to get involved in campaigns like Freedom From Fear to protect shopworkers from physical and verbal abuse. Tracy even insists her team of reps carry membership forms at all times to make sure they maximise the number of members in store. “I may be new to the union but we have a great message and I was pleased to do my bit making sure that people in my store get involved in reducing the levels of violence against shopworkers,” said Tracy.
