Placement with the TUC Organising Academy – Eastern Division

17 August 2005

Usdaw will be sponsoring a place on the TUC’s Organising Academy based at the Waltham Cross Office commencing at the end of October 2005.

As an Academy Organiser you will spend a tough, but rewarding, year undergoing a comprehensive training programme, and applying your skills as an organiser in the workplace. The placement is for a fixed-term contract of 12 months. No guarantee of employment beyond this 12 month period can be made.

The role of the Academy Organiser will be to support and develop Usdaw’s organising work. In more specific terms this means:

1. Direct recruitment of new members through a variety of means.

2. Membership retention and profile raising.

3. Working as part of Divisional or National campaign teams to help plan, co-ordinate and participate in organising and recruitment activity.

4. Playing an active role in the support and development of Usdaw reps.

The successful applicant will be required to live within a 50 mile radius of the Waltham Cross Office and it is an essential requirement that they hold a full, valid driving licence.

The commencing salary is £19,076.76 per annum plus London weighting of £3,062.90 subject to review. A generous bank holiday and annual holiday provision applies. A contributory pension scheme is also in operation.

Prospective applicants should request an application pack in writing to the General Secretary, by e-mail to sue.brown@usdaw.org.uk or by phone to Sue Brown at Central Office. The completed application form should be returned to the Union’s Central Office in an envelope marked “TUC Academy” so that it reaches the General Secretary not later than first post on Friday, 9 September 2005.
