Home Get Active Successful Organising
Great start to Tesco campaign18 June 2005The recruitment of new members has stepped up apace in Tesco with more members recruited in the first few months of this year than ever before. Nearly 10,000 new members have joined so far in 2005 and deputy general secretary Paddy Lillis puts this down to the success of the ongoing organising campaign. “We have used the inductions which give us the chance to talk to new Tesco recruits on their first day at work,” he said. “This has meant a lot of hard work in the divisions but the results are now showing through. “The next stage of the campaign is to ensure that reps are fully trained and supported. “There will be a renewed emphasis on ensuring that monthly rep team meetings take place. Building the team of reps in each store is essential to our organising approach. “Elsewhere, campaigns are being started in Morrisons/Safeway and Sainsbury’s and hundreds of reps will be attending ‘get-togethers’ across the divisions. The emphasis will also be on training and supporting reps so we can build our profile in the workplace and in turn talk to non-members about joining the union.” Contact Details Media and Communications Department Ph: 0161 224 2804 Fax: 0161 248 8588 communications@usdaw.org.uk http://www.usdaw.org.uk/getactive/ |
