Academy double for Usdaw trio

Three members of Usdaw’s first organising academy have won places on the TUC’s special 12 month training course.
The trio of Liz Hampson, Jan Hind and Paul Taylor will be sponsored by Usdaw and work out of the Leeds, Kegworth and Crewe offices respectively. They took up their new positions in November last year.
Former factory worker Paul, 41, will join Tesco’s Jan Hind, 32, and Next distribution employee Liz Hampson, 38, on the demanding course, which mixes formal training with work experience and coaching by an experienced Area Organiser.
“Being on the Usdaw Academy has definitely helped,” said Jan. “I’m sure it would have taken me longer to settle had it not been for the good grounding I had during my six months academy course.
“The TUC Academy is going really well. It’s absolutely fantastic. I’m working on a few projects across all areas within the union, and I’m making good progress. I’ve had a lot of support from within the division and from my coach, Area Organiser Alex Fraser.”
