Team work pays off at Tesco Faversham18 October 2003Award winning recruiter Carole Jackson boasts an impressive 97 per cent membership level at her Tesco store in Faversham town centre. Carole won the union award last year in the Southern division. She has been a shop steward for seven years. “When I was elected shop steward, membership stood at around 60-70 per cent. “We’ve worked steadily to improve on this, by using inductions and mapping the workplace. We now have only a handful of non-members, but don’t worry; we’re working on them! “I really felt that we could improve on this and it’s thanks to my colleagues Lynn Ledger, Nigel Higgins, Michael Porter-Ward along with health and safety rep Shirley Webb who make up the union’s excellent team in the store.
