This was my first time organising in supermarket that wasn't part of the same company as mine. In one particular store there were no activists or reps of any kind. Tackling this was my priority as new members would not feel that they were getting the full benefits of being members without reps in place.
Through listening to new members a shop steward was identified and stood unopposed. Three new members raised issues around health and safety in the store and as they all felt really strongly about their different issues they all stood to become the health and safety rep. A ballot was held and a Health and Safety Rep elected.
The staff now feel that they are more organised and feel more confident about raising issues in their store.
