Carrying on the success of the Organising Academy

02 March 2004

Jeff Beresford works for Makro in Washington, Tyne and Wear and spent six-months with the Organising Academy in 2003. Jeff is a shop steward in his workplace and also sits on the Executive Council of Usdaw. Since finishing the Academy in November 2003 he has been putting his recruitment and organising skills to good use.

Two Safeway branches in the North East Division paid for Jeff to be released from work for a four-week period so he could visit Safeway stores in the division and talk to non-members.

Jeff said, “The stores were all over the North of the division from Berwick upon Tweed to Whitby. I visited over 20 stores in total and was able to recruit 60 new members to Usdaw. It was hard work but well worth it. I hope that I will have the opportunity to do something similar soon.”
