The Usdaw Organising Academy 2009 ... are you up for it?

01 November 2008

Usdaw’s Organising Academy has run successfully over the last six years and we are now looking forward to a seventh year starting on 11 May 2009.

Those who start with the Academy will receive full training from Usdaw’s Education Department as well as coaching from an experienced Usdaw Official.

If selected for the Academy you will spend six months with Usdaw working on a variety of recruitment and organising projects. There will be four weeks of training with the remainder of your time spent working in your division. The Academy is fully accredited which means you will finish with a nationally recognised qualification.

With approximately 30 places available for 2009, competition will be tough. We are looking for Usdaw members who, amongst other things, can demonstrate:

  • An active commitment to Usdaw.
  • The potential to recruit and organise in a range of environments.
  • A willingness to fully participate in all aspects of the Academy.

Usdaw will seek to obtain release from work for all those who are selected for the Academy and will ensure that their wages continue to be paid.

“The Usdaw Academy provides a great opportunity for reps to develop their organising skills. The programme is intensive and hard work but is also extremely rewarding. Reps who complete the Academy return to work after six months with much developed skills and confidence and will be ideally placed to help build our union.”

Paddy Lillis
Usdaw Deputy General Secretary
