Usdaw Organising Awards celebrate excellence

29 January 2008

Usdaw's national Organising Awards ceremony was recently held on 19 January at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester. The event, now in its third year, was a great success and celebrated the hard work of representatives from all over the country.

"This ceremony is all about recognising the hard work that our reps are putting in on a day-to-day basis." said General Secretary John Hannett. "Here we celebrate the very best recruiters, organisers and campaigners who make sure our values remain alive and relevant to every Usdaw member."

In addressing the nominees on the night, John Hannett praised their commitment and dedication, "2007 was a good year for organising and a good year for Usdaw. We ended the year with 356,046 members, the highest level of membership for over 16 years. We also recruited 2,000 new reps, people like you who work so hard on behalf of the Union."

"2008 has started well and with our modernisation strategy and our innovative approach to organising and involving our reps in their Union, we are well placed to go from strength to strength."

The awards were split into eight categories that reflect the diverse work of the Union with each division putting forward one nominee form all the entries they received for each category. The Executive Council then voted in a secret ballot for the national winner in each category. The categories and their winners are listed below.
