Stand-down reps - the way forward in 2008
18 December 2007
Would you like some time out working for the union as a stand-down rep?
It’s an interesting and challenging role and you’ll have the satisfaction of helping to build organised workplaces and increase membership in your area while at the same time raising the profile of Usdaw.
If you have a proven track record of recruiting and organising then why not put your skills to good use. Usdaw stand-down reps are seconded to the union for a set period. It doesn’t matter whether you work full-time or part-time. Usdaw provides all the necessary training and you will spend time working on a variety of projects in and around your division. Usdaw also ensures your wages are paid during your time out and all expenses are covered.
“Our reps and activists have played a massive role in helping to build membership to a staggering 357,024, its highest level since 1990,” said deputy general secretary Paddy Lillis. “We have national agreements with Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Poundland, the Co-op and local agreements with Woolworths, Boots, Wincanton, and Asda Northern Ireland to allow activists time off to be a stand-down rep.
“Giving you a unique chance to put your skills to the test away from your own workplace as well as improve your knowledge and boost your confidence and self-esteem.”
