Campaigning with 16 and 17 year olds
20 August 2005
At this time of year, thousands of 16 and 17 year olds start work in the sectors in which Usdaw organise. These young workers are particularly vulnerable in the workplace. More than anyone, they need the support of a union and we need to hear their views.
Usdaw has a proud record of fighting for 16 and 17 year olds, and we are campaigning to increase the minimum wage for 16 and 17 year olds from the current £3 an hour.
The more evidence we have from 16 and 17 year olds themselves, the stronger our case will be. We have produced a short survey for 16 and 17 year olds to complete either online or download (see below) and return, as well as a leaflet that sets out their rights at work and the support available.
To help with the campaign:
• Please order copies of the survey and Rights and cash for 16 and 17 year olds from the stationery department, Central Office.
• Give copies of the survey and leaflet to 16 and 17 year olds in your workplace. You could also explain that Usdaw is at the forefront of campaigning for 16 and 17 year olds and ask if they would like to join!
If you have any questions, please contact the politics section at Central Office
on 0161 224 2804.
