Campaign for union recognition at Marks and Spencer

24 April 2005

Usdaw is stepping up its campaign for union recognition at M&S by today launching a web site aimed at persuading employees and managers that recognition would be positive for all parties.

The web pages can be accessed via the Usdaw site or directly at www.union4marks.org

Paddy Lillis, Usdaw Deputy General Secretary said “It is now time for Marks and Spencer to listen to their employees and to start talking about a recognition agreement with Usdaw. These web pages are a clear statement of our intent that this is a campaign we take seriously and that we are here for the staff of M&S.

“Our case is a simple one – M&S staff are best represented by an independent trade union that knows and understands the retail sector. We have a lot to offer M&S employees and also the business. Together in partnership we can help the business and our members prosper.”

The web pages contain details of the ongoing campaign as well as what recognition would mean, what the union can offer M&S staff and why it is important that staff are represented by an independent trade union.
