Urgent Protect Christmas Day Campaign call - write to your MP
08 March 2004
Protect Christmas Day Write to your MP
|
The Christmas Day (Trading) Bill is due to have its second reading in the House of Commons on Friday 26 March 2004. Usdaw is urging all its members to write to their MP asking them to attend the House of Commons and vote for the Bill on Friday 26 March.
Kevan Jones MP (Labour, Durham North) is promoting the Bill in the House of Commons. It will outlaw the opening of large stores on Christmas Day. We are very hopeful that the Bill will be successful, it has Government support and has been given priority in the House of Commons. But it needs Usdaw members to get their MPs to support it on March 26th.
How you can help
- Write to your MP asking them to attend the House of Commons and vote for the Bill on Friday 26 March.
- Encourage as many Usdaw members as possible to write to their MP asking them to attend the House of Commons and vote for the Bill on 26 March.
- Download our model letter - sign and send it to your MP. Please feel free to photocopy it and distribute round to as many Usdaw members. Also available is a postcard that you can order copies of and use to encourage more people to write to their MP, friends, family, etc.
- Telephone your MP to ask them to attend on 26 March. All MPs can be contacted via the House of Commons on 0207 219 3000. The more constituents that contact their MP, the more likely it is that the MP will attend.
- To find out who your MP is, you can visit www.locata.co.uk/commons or ring the House of Commons information centre on 0207 219 4272.
If you require further information please contact the Political Officer, Ruth Stoney, or her assistant, David Williams, on 0161 249 2452.
