Have you got what it takes to join the Usdaw Organising Academy?07 January 2004Usdaw is looking for up to fifteen active members to join its Organising Academy. The union is committed to running the Academy in 2004, because the pilot project last year was so successful. Usdaw was the first union in the UK to run its own Organising Academy and the second intake will get going in May 2004. Those who start with the Academy will receive full training from the Education Department as well as coaching from an experienced Usdaw official. If selected for the Academy you will spend six months with Usdaw working on a variety of recruitment and organising projects. There will be four weeks of training with the remainder of the time spent working in your division. The Academy will be fully accredited which means you will finish with a nationally recognised qualification. Up to 15 Usdaw members will start in 2004 and so competition for places will be tough. We are looking for Usdaw members who, amongst other things, can demonstrate:
Usdaw will seek to obtain release from work for all those who are selected for the Academy and will ensure that their wages continue to be paid. The selection process for the Academy will ensure that all of our active members are able to apply whatever qualifications or educational background they may have. ...
