FLT driver guilty of negligence

A forklift truck driver from Hertfordshire has been prosecuted by the HSE for breaching health and safety legislation.

The man was driving his vehicle while his vision was blocked and struck another employee who suffered a fractured pelvis, cuts and bruises.

The company had carried out training, refresher training and re-testing which the driver had received. His failure to follow the procedures led to the HSE taking the prosecution.

The HSE said "It is important that individuals are aware that they, as well as their employer, have duties under the law to take reasonable care of the health and safety of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work."

The driver pleaded guilty to failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of other persons and was fined £1,750.
