Buyer found for retailer

The future of 2,500 jobs at Merseyside retailer Ethel Austin have been saved after the company was bought out of administration in May by Elaine Gray.

The company employed 2,800 at its 300 stores around the UK and had a turnover of £150m in April when it went into administration.

At the time 33 stores were closed and, with job cuts at the Knowsley head office and distribution centre, more than 450 people were made redundant.

National officer John Gorle said: "We are delighted with this news which will hopefully secure the jobs of our members and bring to an end the period of uncertainty that our members have faced over many weeks.

"We will be seeking an early meeting with Elaine in order that we can understand what her plans are going forward for the business in the short to medium term."
