Where there’s a will...

David J Urquhart, Norfolk Area Tesco C97

I wanted to tell my story and hopefully encourage other reps to raise the profile of the free will writing service' available to all Usdaw members.

Usdaw is committed to conducting campaigns such as Parents and Carers and Freedom From Fear, but as a rep I realised the value of promoting the benefits of Legal Plus.

Due to geographical reasons it may not always be possible to guarantee a solicitor where you live, so I took on the challenge of bringing the solicitors to us instead!

Initially I approached my area organiser Stuart Sharman with the plan. Subsequently our deputy divisional officer Dave McCrossen negotiated with the solicitors that if I could provide a certain number of applicants they would travel to our Tesco store in Downham Market, Norfolk.

So I conducted a free will campaign which was a tremendous success, signing up 17 people for the service and then acted as the intermediary between solicitors Bates Wells and Braithwaite and our members.

The planning was a lot of hard work but well worth it and plans are already in progress for another visit later this year.
