Risk mapping tool will cut slip ups

The hard-hitting campaign on slips, trips and falls – Shattered Lives – is urging safety reps to use the risk-mapping tool originally developed by Usdaw.

The campaign's website gives graphic examples of the serious injuries that can be caused by slips and trips in retail, food manufacturing and catering. It gives practical advice on ways of identifying the risks and on how to prevent slips and trips.

A set of useful resources is available at: www.hse.gov.uk/shatteredlives

These include a slip and trip risk mapping tool.

Slips and trips are a major problem for Usdaw members in all sectors. Using the risk mapping tool involves talking to workers to identify problems. It helps the rep to turn the information they collect into a report that management and members can understand. It also provides a way of charting progress in the elimination of the hazards.
