Hefty fine after oil slip

A Hull restaurant owner was fined almost £6,250 and ordered to pay £2,500 costs after a teenager was badly scarred when she slipped into a pan of hot oil left on the floor of a busy restaurant.

The owner pleaded guilty to five health and safety breaches following the incident 12 months ago.

The oil had been left in two pans on the floor when the 19 year-old slipped, putting one leg into the pan full of oil and falling badly. She burnt her feet, ankles, legs, bottom and lower back and needed hospital treatment.
