ADM 2007: The union’s parliament in action
More than 1,300 delegates, visitors and officials, the future prime minister and a number of supportive MPs made Usdaw’s 61st Annual Delegate Meeting (ADM) one of the best in recent years.
Every important issue was debated and voted on from employment rights, lifelong learning, health and safety, young workers, disability, recruitment and organising and many others.
More than 150 delegates made speeches from the rostrum including union veterans and first-time delegates, who made the brave step to address their counterparts and visitors assembled in the gallery.
It was a busy week for General Secretary John Hannett and his Deputy Paddy Lillis who made countless speeches during the four day event which decides the union's policies and priorities for the coming year.
ADM also marked a first for 'new' president Jeff Broome who took to the task of chairing the conference as if he had been doing it all his life.
Also making his ADM 'debut' was Dennis Hart who chaired the standing orders committee for the first time and ensured the conference ran on time and very smoothly.
"Many thanks to all of our activists who made this year such a success," said John Hannett.
