Morrisons Reps get-together at the double
Fifty Morrisons Reps from stores and sites across the North East gathered in Bradford in January to familiarise themselves with the terms of the new improved company/Usdaw agreement which came into force in February.
General Secretary John Hannett, National Officer Joanne McGuinness, and Morrisons Personnel and Training Director Mike Greenwood were on hand to answer questions and guide Reps through the improvements.
"The new agreement brings a number of enhancements," said General Secretary John Hannett. "These include more Reps per store or site, improved consultation and bargaining structures, better induction facilities including a new video and a revised disciplinary procedure."
Divisional Officer Mike Brewer added: "The Morrisons get-together is an important date in the division's calendar. It's a popular well attended annual event and gives Reps from across the division the opportunity to meet senior union and company officials in a positive and learning environment."
Meanwhile Perth was the venue for the annual get-together for Morrisons Reps in Scotland.
More than 30 activists from stores across the country gathered for the two-day event last November. "It's an invaluable opportunity for Reps from a variety of stores to meet and find out what's happening in Scotland and nationally," said Iain Wilson who works at the Aberdeen store. "Terry Nelson and Sandra Busby from Morrisons HR department gave a company update and were more than happy to answer questions from all the Reps.
Jan Main from the East Kilbride store agreed. "It was a very informative weekend," she said. "We looked in detail at the disciplinary and procedural agreement. Reps talked about situations in their stores and how they'd used the agreement to deal with them, I learned a lot.
"The whole weekend was well organised and very relaxed and it was useful having National Officer Joanne McGuinness and Area Organiser John Tonner along to offer help and advice."
"The annual weekend is a popular event," said John Tonner. "The Reps from Morrisons have worked hard in what has been a productive year and we're looking forward to meeting again in February to look at the terms of the new agreement."
