First class support and training available
The education department runs three-day basic training courses for new Safety Reps and also advises on other Usdaw and TUC courses.
Details of H&S courses are available from your Divisional Training Officer or through the on-line course finder.
If you need advice on a particular issue, other Reps in your Area or your Area Organiser can often help. The health and safety section in the legal department at central office also provides technical advice and assistance.
The Usdaw Safety Rep Resource Pack provides practical advice on how to get started as a safety rep along with useful materials and the Usdaw Safety Reps Handbook. Resource packs for new reps can be ordered by contacting your Branch Secretary or Area Organiser.
There are also dedicated health and safety pages on the web site at:
www.usdaw.org.uk/healthandsafety
These include copies of guidance documents from the union on common hazards, resources designed to make the health and safety job easier and news items to keep reps up-to-date.
Reps can also register for regular e-mails on H&S topics including a quarterly 'SafetyNet' newsletter and can join in our on-line discussion forum to share experience and advice with fellow Reps.
