Spotlight days will drive campaign on
Usdaw will hold two Supporting Parents & Carers Spotlight Days which are planned for March 27 and June 13 this year.
The March 27 day will aim to raise awareness of the changes to maternity and adoption leave and we'll use it to press for further improvements particularly in respect of extending the right to request flexible working to parents of school age children.
The Spotlight Day on June 13 has been scheduled to coincide with National Carers Week and aims to raise awareness of the extension of the right to request flexible working to carers and we will continue to lobby MP's to support changes to carers allowance that will allow more working carers to access this benefit than at present.
There will be a national media event in Westminster and have we asked our divisions to help by organising street or workplace stalls and displaying publicity material such as posters, t-shirts, leaflets and campaign packs. Divisions will also be collecting signatures to press for further improvements.
Volunteer now
As always the success of these events is very much down to activists getting involved.
So we do need volunteers to attend our Westminster event on the March 27.
We would like members who have young children, preferably under the age of 18 months to come along and take part in an event with Labour MP's. Usdaw will pay for any costs incurred.
It is important we plan ahead, so if you have young children, live in the London region and want to get involved please contact our media officer Paul Clarke on 0161 249 2469.
